WWS & WWA | February 5th - 12th

Did you know that here in Maine, on March 18th, sunset will be at 7:38pm!? Currently sunset is right around 5:07pm for where we are, Spring, it's in sight! This week I put together my seed catalog order, and we will start some plants indoors here once they arrive. While we look ahead to spring (it was, ahem, 4 degrees here this morning), we continue to look towards sales for inspiration, and recognize the subtle shift in produce offered on sale and it's origin help us track the coming of our own planting season.

Well, enough dreaming, here is....

What We Ate

Planned & Prepped - Did it Go as Planned?

If you recall from my Plan and Prep from earlier this week, I didn't have a very concrete plan for the entire week. We did end up with more leftovers than I expected on Wednesday, which helped carry us through for work lunches, and I made a small batch of Chipotle Chicken Chili on Thursday which helped close out the week, along with a few other misc leftovers, meaning we did not need the chicken and roasted potato dinner. Hooray for using up what's in the fridge!

What didn't go to plan was eating the sherbet ice cream that I had hoped to finish off as part of the freezer challenge. I ended up making a skillet chocolate chip cookie over the weekend that was plenty rich enough to carry us for the week dessert-wise. The cookie was not planned, as I had wanted to freeze the dough for later, but it was just to crumbly and dry to form into log or dough balls. Oh well, you win some, you lose some, and the sherbet won this round for sure.

Even with a lot of the fresh items we had this week, I still found our meals to be quite "heavy." Next week I hope to push out of that and focus on lighter meals that are less red meat and pasta heavy. While we love these foods, too much of them gets old after a while, like most things I suppose!
