Wednesday Mini Prep | Turning Prepped Components into New Meals

Wednesday Mini-Preps are super helpful in avoiding that mid-week rut of "I don't want to eat this again" and avoiding food waste.

Here are some tips to help you meal prep mid week, or any time!

Shop Your Fridge First

Take a look in your fridge and pull out the oldest ingredients that need to be used up first.

Think about ways you can combine your fresh ingredients into new meals. If you need inspiration, search sites such as recipes.com and Pinterest for the ingredients that you think will fit the best together. You can also turn to the index of your favorite cookbook.

In my plan and prep for this week, I baked off four chicken breasts and some bacon, and steamed two large heads of broccoli. From that, I had about 2/3 of a head of broccoli and 2 chicken breasts left.

Additionally, I had a large package of mushrooms that need using, minced garlic, cucumbers, roma tomatoes, and an abundance of lettuce.

Slice Once, Eat Twice

Prepping ahead saves you time, and dishes.

Having fruits and veggies sliced and ready to eat also means your more likely to eat them than if you don't have to wash and prep them each time.

Slicing the strawberries, chicken, mushrooms, and salad ingredients (yellow pepper, cuke, tomato, and lettuce) only took about 10 minutes, and dirtied one cutting board, all while the pasta was cooking.

Tonight's mini prep doubled as dinner for Wednesday night, and  lunches for the rest of the week.

Add New Flavor Profiles

The best way to revamp something you've already been eating for 3 days is to add new flavor profiles.

A jar of Alfredo sauce from the pantry turned half the seasoned chicken, broccoli, and mushrooms into a super quick Chicken Broccoli Alfredo Pasta.

The other half of the chicken, a few tablespoons of garlic Parmesan butter (from the freezer), fresh herbs, and a squeeze of lemon became a Garlic Butter Chicken Pasta.
